Changing Seasons – November 2025

Hello hello. The month of November LAST YEAR really encapsulated the title of this series: The Changing Seasons. It was a period of transition and change in my life, details of which I didn’t know how to share at the time, so I ended up sharing nothing at all. But time has passed, the season has changed, and I wanted to leave something to document the month.

Looking back through my photos, I was most struck by familiar birds that appeared again and again in my camera roll. There’s something comforting in the fact that while everything may change in our human lives, nature still carries on without a care. Birds still hunt and preen and fly off whenever watched for too long. Luckily I snapped this Little egret just as it was taking off. Quite proud of this photo, actually.

The Canada goose feels so common, and they are a bit of a nuisance when a whole gaggle blocks the path on your morning walk. But capturing the goose’s eye in this photo made the creature seem more soft and approachable. (But don’t be fooled and do not approach! Geese will hiss and startle you and make you feel silly as you run away. *Shudders at the memory*)

Two shots of another familiar water bird, the Double crested cormorant. Again, pleased I got the first shot as the bird stretched its wings. Cormorant feathers are not waterproof, so maybe this one was drying off after a splash.

I liked the juxtaposition of the turtles with the cormorant on the fallen tree in the second photo. To me, the turtles seem to be saying, “hey, this is OUR log.” But only with their eyes and the defiant tilt of their necks, because the cormorant’s hooked bill looks sharp and pokey.

And finally, my old favorite, the Great blue heron. I will never not snap a photo of the GBH whenever I spot one.

And this wraps up my Changing Seasons for November 2025. I’m glad I took the time reflect now on these moments, as I certainly didn’t have the bandwidth to absorb them at the time. My soul feels soothed having spent some time with these familiar birds.

This post was written as part of the Changing Seasons challenge. You can visit Ju-Lyn’s blog to see how other creatives around the world spent their month. And I’ll be back very soon with my December wrap up, as well as my annual Books Read review.

P.S. Just had a poke through previous November Changing Seasons. There was this post wrapping up Oct through Dec 2020 (freshly a BTS ARMY awww, and lots of gorgeous foliage in November), and then the post from 2019, which is somehow already six years ago? Had to smile as I read back the thoughts of a six years younger AWS. Oh you sweet summer child. Perhaps I can recapture some of that enthusiasm in the new year.
