Stamp lovers in Seoul, come one come all. Today I finally visited Stamp Mama, a stamp and stationary store located just off Hongik University Station, Exit 2. (Google map here.) The store is on the second floor of the building, so make sure to look up as you round the corner.
Some gift tags at the register Stamp Mama entrance, 2F All the ink pads! Stamp Mama – the main store
Stamp Mama is a must go for stamp and craft lovers in Seoul. They also have an online store (Korean) and hold one-day classes for stamp-related crafts and other promotional events (also in Korean) at the store in Hongdae. The store’s open M – Sa, 11:00 to 19:30.
Every Wednesday of the month is 20% off different stamp-related items in the shop:
- First Wed: “Stamp Day” (wood, clear, stamps)
- Second Wed: “Die Day” (die cuts)
- Third Wed: “Ink Day” (ink pads, ink refills, spray inks)
- Fourth Wed: “Paper Day” (paper, cardstock and envelopes)
- Fifth Wed: “Everything Day” (everything in the store!)
I discovered Stamp Mama a few weeks ago and patiently waited for the next third Wednesday of the month so I could pick up some better quality ink pads. When I walked in today I was like a kid in a candy shop. At first I limited myself to looking at the ink pads… but then I saw they also had the Japanese stamp carving blocks… and the little special eraser to clear away carving bits… and then I saw a little pack of watercolor cards tucked away in the corner.
Needless to say I ended up leaving with 50 dollars worth of supplies. Welp. My YNAB app is kindly blinking at me, telling me I have overspent… yes yes I know. BUT, I needed a little retail therapy today after a rather trying morning. I can’t wait to go home and carve more stamps and try out these new inks. For ink pads, I picked up mostly the Memento and Versa Color minis–they seemed the best place to start for a beginner. Oh! Also since I spent more than 50,000 KRW (gah!!) the lady gave me a special gift–gotta love the “service” (extra gift) culture in Korea!
Stamp Mama haul Extra gifts with my purchase – thank you!
EDIT: I went back in the fall and filmed a bit of the store as part of my Inktober stamp series. Check it out here:
