Hello again and BTS journal

*tap tap* Is this thing on?

So many times over the past year I’ve meant to return to this space, but never seemed to make my way. There’s nothing special to report today, I just finally listened to that littlest of nudges to stop by and check in. (Also I have work to do so I’m procrastinating!) So hello to anyone who’s reading this! How are you? It’s a fine Sunday afternoon here in Seoul. Spring is in the air, and my wardrobe is not yet ready!

Last night for whatever reason I felt inspired to dust off the ol’ six ring binder journal and do some collaging. I hadn’t journaled in that particular binder since 2020! It felt really nice to just return to my old stomping grounds of cutting and pasting paper. And I felt satisfied with the results because I didn’t add any writing.

Back in my early days of decorative journaling (circa 2019) I was a weird purist about what constituted a “journal spread.” I secretly insisted that it had to have an actual journal entry with handwriting, otherwise it’s not a journal. Ironically, I also felt adding the writing “ruined” my own spreads, so I ended up just not journaling as much I probably would have without that self-imposed rule. But people change (I also used to think washi tape was dumb) and here we are! Back in the journal with some pages that are technically probably collages, but who’s to say what’s what anymore. Labels are for cans!

I think one of the reasons I didn’t like actual writing on creative spreads was because I felt embarrassed to share my writing so visually. Deep down, I probably felt self conscious about what I had written, fearing I didn’t have anything worth saying. I still feel that to be honest, even more so since it’s been so long since I wrote in long-form. But wanting to write more and be a better writer was the main reason I started this blog, so here we are. Trying to type thoughts in full sentences without emojis and lols.

Hoping it won’t be another year before my next post.

Wishing you all health and peace. ❀

  1. Hey there!! So lovely to see here again!! 😍
Hehe! My wardrobe isn’t ready either! πŸ˜‚ But as it’s going to be cold again this week I’ve got another chance next weekend. πŸ˜‰
So happy for you and your journaling comeback! I totally get the self conscious part about the writing and also think that these selfimposed rules can sometimes do more harm than good. So yes, skip the writing if you don’t feel like it and have fun cutting paper and do your artful collages!! πŸ’–

  2. Yay! Seeing your new post totally brightened my day \^^/
I really love the BTS spreads you made – the ephemera and details just all go together so well, which is something that I still struggle with. And, did you make the white outlines yourself in pen? Amazing!
