This is Me – 30 days 30 songs

Casual player checking in! I’ve been wanting to participate in Sarah’s 30 days 30 songs challenge for a while, but the truth is I don’t listen to a lot of music normally. I love music, I like being introduced to new songs and artists, but I just don’t listen to music much in my daily life.

That said, I actually was watching the video of This is Me from the movie musical The Greatest Showman when this challenge first started. The song itself is great, but I especially love this video performance because the emotion is so palpable. it gives me the shivers every time I watch it.

This is Me- The Greatest Showman

This is Me has been sort of my anthem and motto this month for a variety of reasons. Earlier in the month I took “This is Me” as a mantra to accept myself for who I am. To accept that this is me, warts and all. To be kind to myself, to stop firing bullets and sharp words at myself, and to love myself.

When the sharpest words wanna cut me down
I’m gonna send a flood, gonna drown them out
I am brave, I am bruised
I am who I’m meant to be, this is me
Look out ’cause here I come
And I’m marching on to the beat I drum
I’m not scared to be seen
I make no apologies, this is me

– This is Me

Today as I reread the lyrics, different parts of the song speak to me and it takes on a different meaning. I had a bit of a confrontation this week, one that made me want to hide away from the world. I’m still processing it, but I think I’ve done all that I can. So I just need to keep marching to the beat I drum and not be scared to be seen. This is ME.

  1. First: I’m so happy you joined in the challenge! Second: What a song and performance!! I had goosebumps all over and tears in my eyes! I’m so glad they captured this moment on film, it’s beyond words.
I hope this song and your passion for art will help you through your difficult time. It is good to have an anthem that reminds you not to be too hard on yourself. We can be our worst critics/judges and learning to not listen to it, is a lifetime experience. But it can be done, and practice makes perfect. 😀 Keep painting and singing!

P.S. I don’t know why, but your posts have stopped showing up in my reader for some reason. I will try solving it by un-following and then re-following you again, so don’t be worried about that, okay?
